What is the impact radar?
The Emerging Technologies and Trends Impact Radar highlights the technologies and trends that have the most potential to disrupt a broad cross section of markets. This research highlghts 20 of the highest-impact emerging technologies and trends that are critical for product leaders to evaluate as part of their competitive strategy.
What do the rings on the emerging technologies and trends impact radar?
In the Emerging Technologies and Trends Impact Radar 2021, the rings represent the Range. Range estimates the distance (in years) that the technology or trend is from “ crossing the chasm ” from early-adopter to early majority adoption. The size and color of the emerging technology or trend radar blip represents its Mass.

Our Build Your Own Radar visualization tool will help you map out a tech strategy that will keep you ahead of the curve. Watch this video to learn more. The radar creation exercise invites you to have a conversation across all organizational levels and review your entire technology portfolio.
How do I set up a tech radar?
Create a CSV file ( $ project-folder/data.csv) as input for the tech radar. It has columns for the ring and quadrant where a technology should be put, and an indicator for movement. The names of the rings and quadrant should equal those in the configuration copied from the Zalando example. If you changed them, use those names instead.

How does a radar set work?
The radar set turns on its transmitter and shoots out a short, high-intensity burst of high-frequency radio waves. The burst might last a microsecond. The radar set then turns off its transmitter, turns on its receiver and listens for an echo. The radar set measures the time it takes for the echo to arrive, as well as the Doppler shift of the echo.
How useful is radar technology?
Obviously, radar is an extremely useful technology. When people use radar, they are usually trying to accomplish one of three things: Detect the presence of an object at a distance – Usually the "something" is moving, like an airplane, but radar can also be used to detect stationary objects buried underground.

What happens when an object moves away from a radar transmitter?
If the object is moving either toward or away from the transmitter, there will be a slight change in the frequency of the radio waves due to the Doppler effect . Radar receivers are usually, but not always, in the same location as the transmitter. The reflected radar signals captured by the receiving antenna are usually very weak.
