A spokeswoman for the US Department of Defense confirmed not only the representative’s statements, but also his briefing about the incident and the fact that Eglin Air Force Base had written and submitted a corresponding report to the AARO.
According to the information known so far, the incident occurred when the sensor systems of a plane that was approaching the US Air Force Base Eglin in the US state of Florida failed along with the sighting of an unknown and to date unidentified flying object over the Gulf of Mexico. According to his own statements, the Republican representative for Florida, Matt Gaetz, was informed about the incident.
Before the congressional hearing last July. Deputy Chief of Staff. Rep. Tim Burchett and Anna Paulina Luna also traveled to the base with Gaetz to learn more about the incident. Since, unlike Gaetz, Luna and Burchett are not members of the House Armed Services Committee and therefore did not have the necessary information release, they were denied further information, participation in the briefing and access to the photographic evidence.
Matt Gaetz used his question time during the UFO hearing on July 26, 2023 primarily to report how he was presented with evidence of a dramatic UAP incident there at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida:
“Initially we were neither given access to all crew members involved nor to the photographs and radar data. After a lengthy discussion about what authorities apply in the USA, we were able to see the photo and speak to the crew member who took the photo.
This recording showed something that I, even my role as a former member of the Armed Forces Committee and a committee that monitors new technological-military developments, cannot attribute to any human development – neither a development of the United States nor of one of our adversaries.
When we spoke to the crew member and were shown the photo, I asked why there was no video footage of the encounter and why the [forward-facing recording] FLIR system was not running. The answer was that the crew was on a test mission over the Gulf of Mexico and in such missions it is assumed that the airspace is cleared and clean. So there shouldn’t really be anything there. Nevertheless, they initially saw a formation of four objects flying in a diamond formation, which were also detected with radar, a radar recording that I was able to see myself. One of the pilots flew towards this formation to investigate and saw what I can only describe as a large flying ball beyond all human possibility. As he approached the object, the onboard radar and FLIR system failed, forcing him to manually take the existing photo.
Some of the test pilots involved told me that the best way to deal with a UAP encounter is to quickly forget about it and not talk about it to anyone. Ultimately, any form of talking about it, be it publicly or in a small circle, brings with it noticeable negative consequences. This is a culture we must overcome.”
Pentagon spokeswoman Susan Gough, who is responsible for the affairs of the US UFO investigation agency AARO (All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office), confirmed the incident, Gaetz’s briefing and the fact that a report had been handed over to AARO to LiberationTimes.com:
“Earlier this year, Rep. Matt Gaetz received classified briefing during his visit to Eglin Air Force Base. However, we cannot comment on the content of this briefing. I can confirm that AARO is reviewing a report from Eglin AFB. AARO has prioritized the analysis of this case and intends to publish the results on its website as soon as the information is released to the public. I have no further information for you.”

According to LiberationTimes.com, the filing of a report of this incident to AARO represents a 180 change in the positioning of the US Air Force from the efforts of the US Department of Defense to conduct official investigations of unidentified flying objects and anomalous phenomena refused to participate in the normalization and formalization of reports of UFO sightings by pilots within the framework of AARO’s predecessor organization (UAP Tas Force). The fact that the Air Force forwarded the Eglin incident to the AARO shows that they have now apparently adopted a more cooperative attitude towards UAP/UFOs. Observers suspect that this action may be a direct consequence of the recent decision to place the AARO directly under US Deputy Secretary of Defense Hicks.
