What is Astronomy Day and when is it?
Originally, Astronomy Day occurred on a Saturday between mid-April and mid-May, and was scheduled so as to occur at or close to the first quarter Moon. In 2007, an autumn rendition of Astronomy Day was added. It was scheduled to occur on a Saturday between mid-September and mid-October so as to be on or close to the first quarter Moon.

What kind of courses does the Department of Astronomy offer?
The department offers a range of cross-disciplinary courses, including AST310H1, JCA302H1, and AST251H1 all of which are open to science majors and non-science majors. The remaining courses are designed for physical sciences and astronomy program students.

This course is intended for students in the final year of the Astronomy and Physics specialist program. Students must enrol with the Undergraduate Secretary of the Department. Usually the students of astronomy focus on classical mechanics and optical methods to be able to observe celestial bodies. It assembles data from the Canadian Meteorological Centre into a stargazing forecast spanning 180 hours. A chart for a particular location uses rows of colored squares to indicate cloud cover, transparency, and seeing.
