Stanford Prof. Gary Nolan Discusses his Research on the Physiological Effects of Close Encounters With UFOs

Stanford (USA) Harvard professor Gary Nolan is undoubtedly one of the top scientists in his field. For 30 years, Nolan has been at the forefront of the research and development of methods and technologies for blood, cell and cancer testing and also holds numerous patents in this regard.

In recent years, however, Nolan has also been known for his open interest in anomalistic, fringe scientific topics, particularly UFOs and extraterrestrial life. In a TV interview, Nolan has now for the first time reported in astonishing detail and openly about his investigations into the effects of close UFO encounters on some witnesses, which he has been carrying out for more than 10 years, among others for the US secret service CIA.

At the time, Nolan had neither a dedicated interest nor knowledge of UFOs beyond (he says) his interest in science fiction. “But these people really meant it. They showed me dates and also explained to me that some of these people had already died.” Using brain scans (MRI) of some of these patients, Nolan recognized internal scars: “These were irrefutable data and the question arose as to what was responsible for these scars and wounds”

The patients and victims were military and intelligence workers, including some pilots. “These were people who had encountered unusual objects. Not only in the air, in one case also on the ground. This man approached the object and even touched it.”

“It was around 2011 when some people from the CIA and an aviation company came to my office at Stanford University. They asked me to help analyze some people who they said had encountered anomalous objects. So these people came to my office unannounced and showed and presented me with pictures and data. Honestly, at first I thought it was a joke. (…) They had inquired about specialists and were now looking for a comprehensive medical examination of those affected. And that’s actually the best way to start with a blood test if you’re looking for inflammation, for example. So in this search for an expert, they were referred to me because I had developed one of the best tools to do so.”

“My concern was not to evaluate the many controversies surrounding this (Rendlesham Forest) and other cases, but to let the data speak for themselves and convince other fellow scientists that these data are worth looking at. In Burroughs’ case, it was clear that he suffered long-term consequences from whatever it was at the time. Not least because of Covid-19, we know only too well what such long-term consequences can be. That’s what it was about.”

Nolan compares the starting point of his work with the Havana Syndrome, whose puzzling effects on embassy staff in different countries are similar to those of directed radiation damage. These were not taken seriously at first, but then – after more and more cases were reported – examined and recognized as a clinical picture. “It was similar with the cases that I was then approached with,” says Nolan. When asked by the moderator, the scientist put the number of cases presented to him at around 100. “In fact, 80 to 90 percent of these cases turned out to be classic examples of Havana syndrome.”

Nolan himself worked on these cases alongside neurophysiologist Kit Green, who (according to Nolan) also worked on classified projects for the CIA. What is meant by this is Dr. Christopher Green, who actually worked for the CIA, among others, and was awarded the US Secret Service’s National Intelligence Medal for his extensive work.

For a long time, up until 2015-1016, the term “interference syndrome” was still spoken of, since apparently something had disturbed those affected. “But then it turned out that many of the characteristics of the syndrome we described coincided with those of Havana syndrome.”

Nolan explained his work in a special with FOX anchorman Tucker Carlson, who has also previously reported on UFOs.

When asked by the moderator about his personal view on why the US government kept all this secret for so long, Nolan suddenly talks about exotic material samples and debris from (UFO) crashes. He suspects that these are not stored in government laboratories but at private aerospace companies such as Lockheed or McDonnell-Douglas, where advantages and profits are expected from their investigation.

Nolan also suspects that an early admission by the US government would have caused panic among the population. However, Nolan does not provide evidence for the assumptions in the program. In fact, on the show, Nolan cites UAP characteristics and capabilities (unimaginable speeds and the ability to transition from water to air) as found in public reports and authenticated Pentagon documents, and then further suspects that it is Properties are what make UFO materials so interesting to government and corporations.

“These things are real. The data is real. And it would be unscientific not to examine this data.”

When asked by Carlson what we observe when we talk about UAP, Nolan replies cautiously at first: “I don’t know. But it’s really not easy for me not to say what I think about what we’re dealing with here. Because if I did that, if I said it was clearly about it, many people would doubt what I said. So I think the better way is to convince people that the data is real.”

When asked by the presenter what the consensus of the people working with him on the cases is, Nolan replies bluntly, “They’re convinced that all of this isn’t from Earth,” agreeing with Carlson’s interpretation that it is are extraterrestrials.

“But unless I’m holding a technological device in my hands that I don’t understand how it works or have the body of an alien in front of me, I remain skeptical. But that doesn’t mean I don’t investigate these things. (…) Because despite all the skepticism, it would still be the most important thing that could ever happen to us.”

As a reason why these things haven’t generally and publicly interacted with us humans yet, or landed officially, Nolan surmises is that ‘they’ are just plain uninterested in us on a diplomatic level: “Would you care about diplomatic relations trouble with ants and birds in your garden? No, they might even intentionally leave them alone because they are pursuing their own interests. But I don’t know what these interests are.”

He himself is not concerned about this presence: “But I don’t think they are here to harm us. Even if they wanted to, there’s probably nothing we could really do about it.

When Carlson asked whether he had found evidence from the investigation of the 100 cases mentioned that UAP had intentionally harmed or injured people, Nolan denied: “No. It was more of an accident – ​​like someone getting too close to a jet exhaust and getting injured.”

These “injuries” can be seen particularly dramatically on brain scans (MRI/MRI). “Here we first identified damage to the white matter of the brain (known as white matter disease). For example, if you look at MRI scans of a person with multiple sclerosis, you see these white areas, which are brain damage, dead brain tissue, and scars. So if a brain region is affected, the functions that this region serves are restricted or no longer available. Memory, movement, etc. can all be affected. Fortunately, the brain can partially rewire itself, depending on the extent of the damage. But if it looks like the scans we just saw, then that’s serious damage. And it was this damage that then convinced me of the seriousness of some of these cases.”

However, just looking at the MRI scans was not enough for him, which is why he personally met, interviewed and examined some of those affected.

“Seeing is believing. It was about checking and confirming those things, and I’ve done that to the extent I can. Of course, people could have lied to me, but I doubt that because I’ve seen some of the consequences of their injuries.”

According to Nolan, the “anomalous objects” that subjects claim to have encountered include both flying objects and objects on the ground that were glowing or incredibly fast-moving objects that subjects had gotten too close to, causing something like radiation burns , after the objects just disappear or dart away. “Very often, skin burns, skin irritations and skin infections were the result. Just like we know it from electromagnetic radiation. And some of that damage caused scars deep down inside the body, and that’s something you really don’t want.”

Since the damage observed was similar to that known from nuclear radiation, the researchers led by Nolan also called for a public warning – not least to the US Congress – to keep as far away from such objects as possible: “In fact, some of the incidents investigated was apparently so overwhelming for the witnesses that they felt the need to approach and touch the sighted objects – simply because it would otherwise have seemed too unreal. As much as one can perhaps understand this need, the indication should also be clear that as long as we do not know what exactly is going on here, it is better not to approach these objects.”

Although Nolan is of course aware of reports from eyewitnesses who claim to have seen human-like creatures inside UFOs, he himself could not support any of these reports as a scientist. Against the background of what he himself understands as evolutionary biology about life, he himself finds it very difficult to imagine human-like extraterrestrials: “I see only small chance that something that has developed on a completely different planet looks like us.”

Instead, Nolan speculates on the following scenario as an explanation for sightings of humanoid UFO occupants:

“If we were an (extraterrestrial) intelligence, would we then end up on an alien planet where we might be in danger of being killed by a horde of hostile apes? No, very likely not. Instead, we would send out some kind of mediator. But what kind of mediator would you send? You would probably send something very similar to these monkeys, but which isn’t itself a monkey. I think, echoing the sentiments of some intelligence officials, that what people see when they report human-like aliens are actually some sort of avatars, biological robots. That is at least one of the hypotheses. We would do the same thing. For example, if we were trying to communicate with ants. We would probably build a robot that looks like an ant and use pheromones to communicate and interact with the ants, precisely because ants use pheromones to communicate. But that doesn’t mean that we can have a table conversation with ants in this way. So here we have a translation problem. And we ourselves use drones for research…”
